T-shirts and polos as a starting point

Prints draw attention to part of an outfit, while plain colours make layering easier. A polo adds a collar and button opening. Compare neckline and length to decide whether to tuck the piece in or leave it out.

When comparing garments, decide what role each will play in an outfit. A T-shirt may remain visible beneath an open jacket; a polo adds a collar that needs room under the next layer. Check both lengths together, especially if you want the inner hem to show deliberately rather than gather at the waist.

Layering sweatshirts and jackets

Look at fabric drape as well as the cut's name. Garments with the same size label can differ at the shoulders, in width and in length. Compare a piece you already wear using the same measuring points as the guide; do not confuse body circumference with the width of a flat garment. For prints, check whether the design is on the chest or back and whether another layer will cover it.
